The secretarial team deal with referrals and hospital appointment queries.
They also deal with insurance company and solicitors requests.
PAs are a relatively new member of the clinical team, seen as complementary to GPs, rather than a substitute, taking on certain areas of workload and helping to free GPs to focus on the more complex patient cases.
PAs have a generalist medical education and work alongside doctors providing medical care in both GP surgeries and hospitals. We can work autonomously, but always under the supervision of a fully trained and experienced doctor.
Currently, PAs are not able to prescribe, order X-rays or CT scans but this can be done under a supervising doctor.
More information can be found on the Faculty of Physician Associates website.
Our midwife deals with all matters relating to pregnancy, delivery and post-natal care. She visits the surgery once a week. Most confinements are arranged on a 'shared care' basis involving a choice, which may include your GP, the Midwife and the Hospital Obstetrician. Appointments can be made by the receptionists.
For 24 hour advice please phone 0114 2268091.
Expectant or post natal mums can contact her at the Community Office on 0114 2268301 based at the Jessop Wing.
All of our patients are now cared for by the Sheffield District Nursing Team which is based at our surgery. They provide care for the housebound, elderly and patients who have been recently discharged from hospital. They can be contacted by telephone on: 0114 226 4100 (24 hour service).
